7 Ways To Be Less Of A Tito On Social Media

There’s no doubt that age can suddenly creep up on you and you start feeling older. Yes, you’re not that old, but if you’re in the bracket (aka towards the late 30s and above) where you’re suddenly one of the more seasoned dudes in the office, you’re now officially a tito.

Age really is just a number. After all, how you’re feeling and how you function defies what’s on your birth certificate. But the more digits you notch, there are some habits that start to reveal your seniority and this especially manifests in your social media usage.

You may well be a tito in real life, but no one has to know online. Here are 7 social media tito habits you should avoid. Get with the times and keep your bro status even for just a little while.

Tip 1: When you quote song lyrics, try using more recent songs.

Once you go with songs that are rather old (15 to 20 years back), people from a younger age group just know you were already older than them back then. That opens up the conversation as to what year you were born.

Tip 2: Go easy with #throwbackthursday posts

Nostalgia is both a good and bad thing. Good because those who share the memories you’ll be posting will then start a conversation thread and you get to reminisce. But it’s also bad because you then show how far back the photo is—exposing your titoness.

Tip 3: Don’t post about status updates that will reveal your being a tito

If you post about having body pain after your weekly hoops game or about feeling out place with the crowd at say, The Palace Pool Club, you’ll just invite the inevitable comments. These will usually come from officemates who will say you’re just suffering from signs of e d a d.

Tip 4: Update your lingo

Understanding millennial speak is the best way to communicate with them on social media. So go ahead, say G! Whenever you’re asked if you’re game for whatever. The moment you don’t understand, don’t ask what it means, just google it first.

Tip 5: Use hashtags correctly

There’s nothing more tito than not understanding hashtags. Remember that it should be used for categories and be specific. When you start using more hashtags than words or they’re too long, then don’t wonder why you get joked about being a tito all the time.

Tip 6: Don’t send personal messages to people’s relatives via comments on a posted photo.

Nothing screams old more than that. That’s what private messaging is for.

Tip 7: Careful with your #OOTD posts

If your outfit post looks cool and stylish back in 2005 and it’s a new photo, then you’re making it easy for everyone. You’re just confirming that you are, indeed, a tito.
