2016 is nearing its end. During this period, we can’t help but review our achievements for the year. If our self-assessment tells us that we need improvement, fortunately, there is next year. But in 2017, let’s ask bigger and better questions about what we want and, hopefully, we can improve.
QUESTION 1: WHAT’S YOUR BIG GOAL?
2017 will last for exactly one year. But that is plenty of time to achieve a lot of things. What’s your biggest priority for this year? Dream as big as you can because there’s no stopping you and it ensures you won’t hit a ceiling early.
QUESTION 2: WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO ACHIEVE THIS BIG GOAL?
If it’s really huge, your big goal will seem impossible. But if you list the steps that lead up to it, the sense of impossibility dwindles. Breaking your big goal into a series of mini-goals will make it easier to achieve.
QUESTION 3: ARE YOUR GOALS POSITIVE?
It’s better to state goals as something that adds to your life than take away from it. The negative makes you feel deprived and more likely to change your mind. That’s why it’s better to ‘eat healthier food’ than to ‘stop eating junk food’.
QUESTION 4: ARE YOUR GOALS SPECIFIC?
Your mini-goals, if not your big one, should always be precise and measurable. These will enable you to easily keep track of your path and tell you how close or far you are from your goal.
QUESTION 5: WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT WAYS TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS?
Your goals, especially the big one, shouldn’t be written restrictively. If it’s too limiting, people tend to drop it. Make your goals so there are multiple ways to get there. Your big goal for this year might be to have a sexy body. One of your mini-goals should be something like losing 50 pounds and not running 5km every day. Unless you really like running, doing it every day can get boring. But you don’t have to run to lose 50 pounds, you can swim, hit the gym, or eat less.
Asking these questions will give us a great start. But it will still require hard work and a little luck. So here’s a little more help from M2.0, good luck in this coming New Year!
